Our new 5-Axis CNC Milling Machine 

Precise CNC Milling of Custom Optics

Crystran can now manufacture a host of new and exciting optical components using our dedicated 5-axis CNC milling machine, introduced to our shop floor last month.

With angular tolerances as low as 5 arc seconds, components such as multi-faceted prisms and wedges can now be made directly from our customers’ CAD drawings. Transferring our long-established know-how in how to manually cut and polish delicate UV / IR crystalline material, such as CaF2 and ZnSe, to this modern-day production machine provides us with a step-change in our capability to address the most advanced/unusual component design.

With on-board touch-probe and optical metrology for the precise setting of tool parameters and alignment datums, parts can be made to near-micron precision, quickly and automatically. Custom optics ranging in size from 2 to 350 mm can be made without additional tooling, enabling us to offer our valued customers both low prices and rapid delivery times – all with the usual Crystran quality stamp of approval that you’ve come to expect.
