Crystran Newsletter May 2016

Hello everyone, and welcome to our first newsletter of 2016!
We just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued business and keep you informed about our capabilities and advancements as a company.

We have over 10,000 sq ft of manufacturing space  with specialist areas for blank forming, polishing and clean room inspection.
One of our double sided polishing machines being operated by experienced  optical engineer Len Stack.

Crystran have been manufacturing optics for over 20 years and specialise in fabricating high spec components from IR and UV materials. Working mainly with crystals and innovative glass, we cover nearly all the traditional IR and UV materials as well as many of the rarer, more exotic ones. We have an extensive inventory of stock windows, lenses and prisms as well as raw material ingots ready for custom manufacture.

Our optical workshops are full of specialist polishing equipment which allows us to accommodate a variety of custom requirements in both prototype and production volumes. From conventional pitch polishing to lapping and double sided polishing, we can select the best method for achieving optimal flatness, parallel and surface quality specs.

Our capabilities include:
Blank forming: flats, lenses, prisms, and custom geometries
Smoothing: surface grinding and prepolishing
Pitch polishing: for optimal surface finish < 20/10
Lapmaster polishing: for surface flatness up to L/20
Double sided polishing: for high volume and tight parallel specs
Specialist polishing: for more unconventional materials like KRS-5
Inspection areas: for testing all optical and physical parameters

For a more detailed insight into material selection and specification you can download a view a copy of our company presentation here:

We have access to some of the finest crystal growth facilities in Europe through the agencies of our associate company in Germany, who are renowned for their high quality optical fluoride materials. We manufacture blanks and polished optics from crystals grown within our group or from stocks of ingot held at Crystran to ensure lowest costs and quick delivery times. By constantly refining our production methods and investing in new equipment we are able to keep prices competitive whilst offering the highest quality optical components.

We would also like to welcome the newest member of our workforce, David Fendley who will be working as a production technician in our blank shop.

If you have any questions please feel free to get in touch and keep your eye out for our next newsletter where we'll be focusing on the topic of metrology.
